The American Hospital Association Board of Trustees voted earlier this year to update its vision and mission statements to reflect the importance of equity more directly in advancing the health of people and communities. Part of their renewed mission included creating and launching the Health Equity Roadmap.
The Health Equity Roadmap is a framework to support hospitals and health systems in their efforts to become more equitable organizations and dismantle barriers to health and well-being. It includes customized resources and plans to guide organizations through the transformation process.
To get involved, hospitals should:
- Take the Health Equity Transformation Assessment. The self-assessment is a questionnaire design to give hospital leaders a baseline to assess performance and opportunities for transforming organization policies and practices.
- Create plans and access AHA resources. After completing the self-assessment, organizations will receive a Health Equity Transformation Profile and structured plans and resources from AHA’s Health Equity Action Library.
- Connect with others on their health equity journey. After completing the self-assessment, organizations will be invited to join a secure, online community to share ideas, ask questions and connect with other organizations.
